Cleistocarpous

A term for fungal fruiting bodies without a preformed opening or specialised opening mechanism. Spores are released through weathering or, in zoochorous dispersal, through mechanical and/or chemical destruction of the wall, for example in the giant puffball (Calvatia gigantea).
